Cousine Island

In the azure waters of the Indian Ocean there is an Island like no other. Where nature thrives and man is just a silent observer. Just below the equator and 1000 miles east of Africa, Cousine Island is one of the most untouched granitic islands of the Seychelles archipelago and it is also recognised internationally as one of the most ecologically important private islands on earth.

Cousine Island is truly a conservation success story and is opening in 2016, offering a unique nature experience in the comforts of unparalleled luxury with a sense of seclusion and privacy rarely found.

From arrival to departure, our guests are part of the Cousine Island family. Warm hospitality that is unobtrusive and encourages a true 'home away from home' feeling. Cousine Island is perfect for honeymoons and intimate beach weddings, as well as special occasions and exclusive island charter for those seeking complete escapism.

Cousine Island is proudly the first exclusive eco-luxury private island in the world to adopt a conservation based management structure in which ecotourism development ensures that revenue derived from the hotel is reinvested for the long term sustainability of conservation and biodiversity.

To ensure the highest levels of privacy and that human impact is kept to a minimum, Cousine Island has four elegantly designed French colonial Luxury Villas and one stately Presidential Villa nestled in lush endemic vegetation, just 30 meters from the beach. Each villa has been uniquely furnished with individually hand-crafted furniture as well as the latest technology to ensure opulence and comfort of the highest level. The Presidential Villa is 625m2 in size and offers two master bedrooms with en-suite bathrooms, a study area, personal gym, spa, kitchen, dining room and outside bar and living space. Guest are also given their private golf cart to use during their stay on the island and further offers a full time butler and chef as well as offers accommodation for an au pair or chamber lady.

The island’s french colonial design and architecture evokes memories of Seychelles past, recognising the early French occupation of the Seychelles from 1742 - 1811. Eco-friendly building materials have been sourced from all over the world and precise protocols were followed to prevent reintroducing alien species on the island. The concept behind the interior was to adopt a French provincial style using Louis XVI and Louis XV pieces as well as simpler pieces. The idea was to create a comfortable, yet opulent space with fabrics and colours that blend into the backdrop of the ocean creating a soft sensuous interior with a look that is more collected with an intimate personal touch. Cousine Island is unique amongst the islands in the region as conservation is at the pulse and heart of our philosophy.

At Cousine the management strive to ensure that human impact is kept to a minimum and believe that sustainable ecotourism should involve direct and tangible benefits to the environment. To promote and practice nature conservation and the sustainable use of natural resources and surroundings, by contributing directly to the region’s biodiversity.
